Maintaining correct tire pressure is essential. Too low causes sidewall flex, overheating, and wear; too high can reduce grip and lead to harsh ride. Check pressure regularly as roads heat tires and expansion changes pressure.
Use non-acidic wheel cleaner and soft brushes. Avoid abrasive cleaning pads on the machined edges. Clear coat protection helps but requires mild care. Rinse off brake dust and grit frequently to prevent stain or etching.
Even small imbalances in wheel and tire combos can cause vibration or uneven wear. After mounting wheels, get them balanced properly. Also check lug nut torque to ensure proper wheel seating.
Rotate tires periodically to even out wear. Alignment of golf cart steering components or suspension also impacts wear. Worn bushings or loose parts can lead to irregular tire wear and degrade ride quality.
Low profile tires have less cushion for impacts. Inspect for cuts, punctures, sidewall damage. Glossy wheels are also susceptible to curb rash – avoid hitting curbs or obstacles, and check for chips or abrasions.
In wet or salty conditions clean often to avoid corrosion. For winter or heavy exposure, consider applying a protective sealant or wax to wheel surfaces. Store cart or cover wheels when cart not in use for long periods.
Lift cart off wheels if storing long term to avoid flat spots. Or ensure weight is distributed evenly. Keep tires covered from direct UV if possible, stored in shaded place.
Even premium combos wear out. Once tread depth or wheel integrity decline significantly, replace rather than repair. Replacing tires before safety is compromised is preferable.
Changes in ride height, steering feel, braking distances or unusual noise often point to tire or wheel issues. Track these changes so when performance drops, you can identify and remedy early.
Well maintained wheel and tire combos stay visually appealing, maintain ride quality and safety. They also preserve resale value. The effort required is minimal compared to cost of neglect.
